Write a poem of 150 words in the form of a list of some kind, describing a place or scene.

1) Write a poem of 150 words in the form of a list of some kind, describing a place or scene. Use rich language evoking all senses and be sure your images are ACTIVE. You should go somewhere IN action (coffee shop, park, concert, playground, mall, skatepark, etc.) where people are moving, conversing, or otherwise interacting. Be an invisible narrator (you aren’t “in” the poem). Use ONLY active images. No summaries, explaining, thoughts, or feelings. Title the poem after the place.

2) Point out your favorite image in 5 of your classmates pieces. Try to find at least one for each sense (touch, taste, vision, sound, smell, kinesthetic (movement))

Here’s a try (I just did a little to give you an idea)…This is all from memory – yours will be better from real life.

Climbers On The Mountain

1) A focused woman with a shock of long grey hair hustles in neon pink tights with two black poles click clocking;

2) A small brown bear moves quietly towards the small, purple blueberries, then skitters away in a loud rustle and snap of foliage away from the chaos of the first towheaded duo of boys in Red Sox hats leading the pack on a class trip filled with loud ten-year-olds.

3) A preppy couple in expensive hiking clothes saunter down quietly smelling like pot and stale sweat;

4) Mountain men of a certain unemployed outdoorsy kind move past in a furry of tan and veined calves in well worn hiking boots.
