Read Chapters 9 – 13 of “Switched on Pop.”
Discuss how identity is conveyed through the topics discussed: Syncopation, Modulation, Counterpoint, Sampling, and Sound Design. Each topic can be associated with an artist who expresses who they are through that element of musical construction.
Identify at least one artist and why they are associated with one of these elements. You may use any of the artists that the authors identify in discussing each of the elements.
Tell why popular music identity can help society or be a detriment (Music glorifying violence? Music that conveys concerns about society?).
